British Art from the Ages

Art in Britain has grown in statue over the past centuries and now competes on an equal footing with that of the rest of the European continent. Previously the region had sat behind France, Italy and the Netherlands for offering new ideas and great technical qualities.

Impressionism from France and the Italian-led Renaissance had strongly influenced changes in the UK but it is only now that artists from Britain are pushing boundaries themselves.

There are still skilled British artists from centuries ago, though, and this article comments on some of the best paintings to have come from them.

John Constable produced Haywain which is his best known painting from a career devoted to landscape art and he was joined around this time by JMW Turner who was classed as a romanticist and he painted many seascapes such as The Fighting Temeraire.

George Stubbs famously painted horses, as seen in Whistlejacket and there was also satirical work from William Hogarth. Gainsborough and Reynolds were two important portrait painters.

More recently there is David Hockney who continues to teach us of the excitement found in Pop Art and some really modern artists continue to trigger discussion on the future direction of European art generally.

Damien Hirst produced some of the best creations in the art world over the past 20 years and are instantly recognisable installations. There is much controversy over his work but there remains a huge following who love his innovative ideas.

It is worth looking through the best of what British art has to offer and there is a good mixture of the old and the new from past and present artists. Of the best living artists, try David Hockney and Damien Hirst who continue to build impressive artistic reputations.

British paintings have been mentioned here as some of the best to check out but there are many more to see from the careers of the famous artists listed here who, between them, should have most artistic tastes covered. There has also been a rise in interest in British paintings as reproductions for art fans outside of the UK.
